Surface Mount Assembly
0402 - 0.4mm fine pitch components are placed with one of our automated pick and place machines.
Surface Mount Technology (SMT) is an area of electronic assembly used to place Surface Mount Devices (SMD’s) directly onto the component footprints on the surface of the printed circuit board (PCB).
SMT was developed to reduce manufacturing costs due to the high level of automation, offering good repeatability. It also makes more efficient use of board space and as manufacturing technology and components advance this results in the ability to manufacture smaller and more complex circuits.
After solder paste has initially been screen printed onto the board and the board has been assembled by pick and place it is then passed through a reflow oven to solder the components to the board.
